About me
I’ve been dedicated to orchestral music for over three decades
My musical journey began at the Kranj Music School, where I studied in the class of Prof. Eva Krajnčan. I continued my education at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana with Prof. Igor Karlin and Prof. Dušan Sodja, and later graduated in clarinet at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Prof. Slavko Goričar.
Today, I am employed at the Kranj Music School as assistant to the principal. I teach clarinet and conduct the school’s wind and symphony orchestras. I began focusing on conducting as a teenager and later advanced my skills through study and training with established conductors such as Jan Cober (Netherlands), Douglas Bostock (United Kingdom), Johannes Stert (Germany), Miro Saje, and Uroš Lajovic (Slovenia). Their knowledge and experience have significantly influenced my musical outlook and approach to working with orchestras.
I have been involved with orchestral music for over 35 years — initially as a member, and later as a conductor of numerous ensembles. Since 2019, I have been leading the Wind Orchestra of the Municipality of Kranj. In the past, I have collaborated with various orchestras, tamburitza, and vocal ensembles, and I am actively involved in theatre projects as well.
Pedagogical work with young musicians holds a special role in my professional activities. For more than two decades, I have been conducting the Youth Wind Orchestra of the Kranj Music School, and in 2009, I founded the school’s Symphony Orchestra. Both ensembles provide young musicians a space for creativity, ensemble playing, and collaboration.
Among the important milestones in my career, I particularly value winning first place in the first category and third place overall at the International conducting competition for wind orchestras in Hungary (2016), organized by the Eastern European section of WASBE. The opportunity to conduct the closing concert on this event was a valuable and inspiring experience for me.
Equally meaningful was the experience of creating the ballet suite ČAROBNO SRCE (The magic heart) in collaboration with composer Slavko Avsenik Jr. The suite consists of seven stories based on Slovenian myths and legends, each addressing the listener through a connection between musical dramaturgy and dance interpretation. The symbolism of individual mythological motifs is expressed through carefully crafted soundscapes and choreographic solutions.
Premiere: February 18, 2025, Prešernovo gledališče, Kranj
Although awards and recognitions are important, what matters the most to me is the trust and dedication of the musicians I work with and the sense of community we build together through music.
